In Septa I and Septa II lectures we introduce the basic concept of particle accelerators septa devices – key elements of beam injection and extraction systems. The basics of charged particle beams electrostatic and magnetic deflection are presented. A comparison between the two schemes is introduced. Different septa types and their specifics are described and most of them are illustrated with real septa designs from accelerator laboratories around the world. Design examples are used to emphasize the important septa parameters and their limitations. At the end, presented equations for electrostatic and magnetic deflection are mathematically derived.
