In this lecture we discuss the principles of an FEL oscillator, in which a radiation pulse is trapped in an optical cavity but receives repeated amplification as the pulse meets an electron bunch as it come to the entrance of a low-gain FEL. We provide a qualitative picture of how the power and the longitudinal and transverse modes of the pulse develop.Downloads
