Abstract

The session aimed at addressing the challenges and overall strategy for the second operational period of CERNs Large Hadron Collider, expected to restart beam operation in early 2015. While the main focus was the identification of a strategy for the commissioning year 2015 (concentrating on 6.5 TeV, 25 ns/2800b per beam), the presentations provided as well an outlook for plans to reach the nominal machine performance by further decreasing β* and by maximizing the luminosity output of the machine as of 2016, while maintaining the pile-up at the level currently acceptable for the LHC experiments.
